Royaltone Academy offers leather course this month
Cleaners who already know how to spot, clean and press garments can easily take their education one step further by signing up for a two-day leather and suede cleaning course offered by the Royaltone Leather Cleaning Academy.
The school, which is located in Tulsa, OK, will host its next course from Sept. 11-12.
Those who attend will be instructed by Frank Lucenta and his staff in every aspect of handling and processing suede, leather, fur, trims and fabric from the time the garment comes into the drycleaning plant until the time it leaves once again.
Class will be in session from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
During the first day, students will learn about the tanning process, as well as how to identify the skins and peculiarities of suedes and leathers.
Throughout the day, Royaltone instructors will emphasize a variety of topics, including: acceptance techniques; invoice ticket preparation; spotting techniques for drycleaning; drycleaning charge levels and run times; testing drycleaning fluid; gluing and sewing; pressing and forming; spotting for wetcleaning and wetcleaning methods; spray finishing; water repelling and sizing; and restoring luster.
A final exam will be given at the end of the day.
On Sunday, attendees will undergo a hands-on training session under supervised actual plant operation conditions.
At the end of the day, diplomas will be awarded.
At the conclusion of the course attendees will also receive a copy of Royaltone’s Wetcleaning and Drycleaning DVDs.
Enrollment in the two-day course is limited to seven plant owners/managers and is filled on a first-come basis, so early registration is recommended.
The cost of the instruction manual for the program is $495 per attendee, with up to 50% discounts available for multiple attendees from the same plant.
The next available courses at the school will not be until next year. One course will take place from Feb. 12-13; the other will be held from Sept. 10-11, 2009.

SDA to host two courses at Lubbock
Though the school at which the Southwest Drycleaners Association hosts its drycleaning courses recently changed its name, it will still offer its usual slate of courses later this year.
Formerly known as the International Textile Center, the school was recently renamed to be the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute (FBRI). It is located on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
This Fall, SDA will enlist instructor Jane Zellers to teach two class offerings on stain removal. A basic course will be held from Nov. 10-12; an advanced course will follow on its heels from Nov. 12-14.
Class space is limited to a minimum of ten students and a maximum of 24, so early registration is recommended.
For additional details about any of SDA’s upcoming educational courses at FBRI, contact the association by calling (888) 732-2567. SDA’s web site is located online at www.sda-dryclean.com.
