America’s Best Cleaners hosted an all-day “green cleaning” symposium for the clothier Brooks Brothers featuring technical cleaning experts and couture care at the Lodi, NJ, headquarters of one of its affiliates, Green Apple Cleaners.
Green Apple bought its second Solvair Cleaning System, which uses liquid CO2, in June.
Specialists from ABC and partner Kreussler Chemical focused on three methods of cleaning garments, wetcleaning, carbon dioxide cleaning and the newly developed Solvair cleaning system, discussing methods and giving demonstrations for the Brooks Brothers technical design team, which has consulted with ABC on garment care techniques for several years.
“CO2 cleaning and wetcleaning are the cutting-edge methods of cleaning garments in a way that’s both ecologically friendly and also better for the garments,” said Christopher White, ABC technical director. “Brooks Brothers has always been a very conscientious clothier and is very interested in adopting green methods of caring for their garments. We’ve been working closely with them on how to accomplish these goals.”
David Kistner, the CEO of Green Apple Cleaners, said his company has seen a 52 percent reduction in utility costs since it started using Solvair. The company also has a fleet of bio-diesel ready trucks and smart cars for picking up and delivering to over 450 residential and commercial buildings. Though the bulk of its business is pickup and delivery,Green Apple has opened two storefront locations in New York City and two in New Jersey with more planned.
The company’s web site is www.greenapplecleaners.com.
ABC recognizes top drycleaners in metropolitan areas in the United States and throughout the world. To be recognized, a drycleaner meets rigorous criteria, established in conjunction with the Hohenstein Institutes in Germany. ABC affiliates receive continuing education and plant inspections, and are rated through a secret shopper program.
