MCA presents series on spotting in Twin Cities area
The Minnesota Cleaners Association will be hosting a series of spotting seminars in the Twin Cities area on Friday
and Saturda, Nov. 21 and 22.
The programs will be headed by the popular teaching duo of Dennis Schmitt and Tom Swink, who have been conducting spotting seminars together since 1992.
The pair have also accrued over 46 years of experience in the drycleaning
industry.
The weekend seminars will be designed to help cleaners of every level of
experience from beginning to intermediate to advanced.
In fact, there will be four hours devoted to each level of training.
Beginners will learn hands-on about topics such as: spotting board techniques
and maintenance, fabrics, buttons, garment construction and limits, dry side
chemicals, and spot removal on an assortment of materials.
During the intermediate instruction, attendees will review stains and chemicals
before focussing on fabric identification, burn testing, acids and alkalis, and
additional tips and tricks for spot removal.
Lastly, the duo will focus on more advanced bleaching techniques, as well as how
to work on wedding gowns.
Important reference materials and lunch will be provided free of charge to each
participant.
The cost to attend is $125 per person per session for MCA members who sign up
prior to Nov. 1.
The cost goes up to $150 per session after that date.
Non-members must pay $250 to attend each session, $125 of which will be applied
toward membership in the association.
A 15 percent discount will be available to those who register for three
sessions. Session registrations do not have to be the same person, but they do
have to hail from the same plant.
The courses are available on a first-come, first-served basis so early
registration is highly recommended.

Kay to host live show on drycleaning equipment
Drycleaning equipment is not exactly considered an impulse buy since the cost
can run several tens of thousands of dollars for one piece of machinery.
So, whenever possible, cleaners are well advised to see such merchandise in
operation before they take the financial plunge.
With that in mind, Kay Equipment Co. of South Bend, IN, will host a free live
equipment demonstration for the general public from Nov. 7 to 9.
On display will be Ipura drycleaning, Sankosha finishing and Unimac laundry
equipment, as well as Iowa Techniques specialty equipment and Thermosteam
boilers, hot water and air systems.
In addition to the exhibitions and demonstrations, Kay will also present
informative seminars. Topics include: alternative solvents, energy-saving
technologies, tensioning equipment, boilers and steam systems and maintenance
and service.
