First of 2009 drycleaning courses at DLI this month
The first of a series of drycleaning courses scheduled for 2009 will begin this month at the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute’s School of Drycleaning Technology in Laurel, MD.
Introduction to Drycleaning, a one-week course, will begin Jan. 26. The introductory course is designed to help individuals new to the industry — employees and owners/managers with less than one year of experience — and covers fibers and fabrics, work flow, principles of the drycleaning process, assembly and invoicing, the drycleaning machine, cleaning and drying cycles, elementary stain removal, and finishing procedures for pants, coats, and skirts.
Tuition is $795 for DLI members and $1,149 for all others.
The same course will be offered three more times during the year with starting dates of April 20, July 20 and Oct. 19.
A two-week Advanced Drycleaning course will begin Feb. 2, immediately following the introductory course.
The advanced course is for those who have completed the introductory course or employees and owners/managers with more than one year of production experience. It covers specialty fabrics and fiber identification, advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches, finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all-weather coats, pleats, pile fabrics, silks, and rayon.
Also covered are wetcleaning, solvents, detergents, moisture, filtration, and distillation for perchloroethylene and petroleum systems, troubleshooting the drycleaning system, regulations and care labeling, plant layout and work flow, customer service, and business management
Tuition for the two-week course is $1,249 for DLI members and $1,749 for all others.
The two-week course will also be offered beginning April 27, July 27 and October 26.
The two courses can be taken back-to-back as a three-week general course. DLI members can save $449 on course tuition when the two courses are taken consecutively.
DLI is also offering two sessions of its one-week Drycleaning Stain Removal course. The first class will begin March 23 and the second on September 14.
This course includes instruction and practical application on stain removal and cleaning procedures, covering fibers and fabrics, principles of drycleaning, load classification, solvents used in drycleaning, detergents and moisture, filtration and distillation, drying and vapor recovery, troubleshooting drycleaning machines, stain removal tools and equipment, stain removal agents and procedures and bleaches.
The cost of this course is $795 for DLI members and $1,149 for all others.
All courses offer a discount on the tuition for two or more people from the same plant. Also, the courses are free for members of DLI’s Premier Club. Scholarships are available to cover tuition costs for the General Drycleaning course.
The courses include classroom instruction and practical application area by using conventional and tensioning finishing equipment, hot and cold stain removal boards, a variety of different wetcleaning and drycleaning machines, and other tools in DLI’s training facility. All courses at DLI's headquarters are accredited through the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
