As 2009 rolls around, cleaners will have numerous opportunities to brush up on
their trade skills as the National Cleaners Association will be offering a packed schedule of events.
Many will be held at the association’s New York School of Drycleaning, located at 254 W. 29th St. in New York City.
In fact, that site will host five of six upcoming two-day D.E.C. Certification
Courses. Those five courses will be held on consecutive Sundays from 9 a.m. to
6 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 8 and 15; March 22 and 29 (in Korean); May
17 and 24; July 26 and Aug. 2 (in Korean); and Oct. 4 and 11.
The other course will be held in western New York on Saturday and Sunday, Jan.
24 and 25.
The cost to attend is $695 for members and $1,195 for non-members.
Also in January, NCA will host a one-day, eight-hour course on Wetcleaning. It
will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and cost $250 for
members and $275 for non-members.
Later in the year, NCA will offer the class again on Sunday, Nov. 8.
In February, cleaners can take a more comprehensive course on “Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal” which meets for 40 hours. The course will be held from Feb. 9 to 13, 8:30 a.m.
to 5 p.m. The cost is $750 for members and $995 for non-members. Those who miss
the class will have another opportunity from Aug. 10 to 14.
Also in the early part of 2009 is NCA’s “Principles and Practices of Pressing” course which runs for four weeks and meets from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Mondays
and Wednesdays.
The course costs $380. One session is planned from Feb. 16 through March 11, and
another is slated for Sept. 14 through Oct. 7.
Rounding out the February classes is a one-day program on “Intensive Bleaching” which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 22. A second course will also
be held on Sept. 20. The cost to attend either is $250 for members and $275 for
non-members.
Those seeking to improve their “Basic Pressing and Finishing” skills will have a chance from March 13 to 15, and then again from Oct. 2 to 4.
Both three-day courses meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and
Sunday. Tuition is $455 for members and $595 for non-members.
On March 15, NCA will host two different one-day seminars that will both run
from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first will cover “OSHA Compliance” and be taught by Mike Tatch; the second will be “Business Practices” by Larry Maietta. Each will cost $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Starting one week later, NCA will host its signature course on the “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning.” The ten-week course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 11 p.m. and costs
$970 altogether. One session will run from March 23 to June 15 and a second is
slated for Oct. 26 to Dec. 30.
NCA will also host a ten-week course on “Comprehensive Drycleaning” in Korean starting on March 24. It will meet from 7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays and
Thursdays and cost $970, as well.
In addition to its courses offered, NCA also hosts numerous webinars throughout
the year that cost $69 for telephone and Web-based participation and begin at 6
