NCA plans full slate of classes for 2009
Some cleaners may only have the time or need to take a one-day course to brush
up certain skills. Others might be looking for more comprehensive educational
programming.
Either way, the National Cleaners Association will have plenty of learning
opportunities available in 2009 at its New York School of Drycleaning.
In early February, the association will offer a five-day, 40-hour class
focussing on “Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal.”
Students will meet Monday through Friday, Feb. 9 to 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A second course will run later in the year from Aug. 10 to 14. The cost is $750
for members and $995 for non-members.
Also early in February, NCA will also host the first of many two-day programs to
help cleaners achieve their DEC certification. The class typically meets from 9
a.m. to 6 p.m. on consecutive Sundays.
Upcoming course dates include: Feb. 8 and 15; March 22 and 29 (Korean); May 17
and 24; July 26 and Aug. 2 (Korean); and Oct. 4 and 11.
Tuition is $695 for members and $1,195 for non-members.
Those looking to fully develop and perfect their pressing skills may want to
mark Feb. 16 on their calendars. That is the start date for NCA’s four week course on the “Principles and Practices of Pressing.”
The night course runs from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The
first outing will conclude on March 11; a second session will run from Sept. 14
to Oct. 7. The cost for either is $380 per person.
The final February offering will be on “Intensive Bleaching.” The one-day class will start at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. on Sunday,
Feb. 22. A second seminar will be held on Sept. 20. The cost is $250 for
members and $275 for non-members.
When March rolls around, NCA will host a three-day course on “Basic Pressing and Finishing” that meets all day Friday through Sunday, March 13-15. A second offering will
be held Oct. 2 to 4. The cost is $455 for members and $595 for non-members.
A pair of one-day seminars are slated to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
March 15. One will feature a discussion of “OSHA Compliance” by Mike Tatch; the other will be by Larry Maietta who will talk about “Business Practices.” Each course is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Starting on March 23, NCA will feature its signature ten-week course on the “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning.” It meets on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7 to 11 p.m.
The first session will conclude on June 15. A second outing will be held from
Oct. 26 to Dec. 30. To attend, each student must pay $970 per session.
NCA will also offer a ten-week comprehensive course on drycleaning in Korean. It
will meet from 7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the dates of
March 24 and June 2. Tuition is $970 for members and $1,170 for non-members.
Another topic on the schedule is “Technical Training at the Counter for Customer Service Representatives.” However, the one-day program will be an outreach seminar.
It will be held in Syracuse, NY, on April 19 and again in Lansing, MI, on May 2.
A third outing is planned in New York City on July 19.
NCA will also host a one-day program on “Intensive Inspection and Packaging” in New York City on June 28.
Both the CSR training session and the inspection class will run from 8:30 a.m.
until 5 p.m. and cost members $250. Non-members must pay $275 each.
Also costing the same amount will be a one-day program on “Wetcleaning” that will be held in New York City on Nov. 8.
Cleaners can also take advantage of NCA’s webinar programs. The cost is $69 for telephone and Web-based participation.
They take place at 6 p.m. EST on Wednesdays.
On Feb. 18, the topic will be “How to Build a Route Without Knocking on Doors” by Greg Colosi. Alan Spielvogel will discuss “Machinery Maintenance” on March 18.
Webinar topics and dates that will be held later in the year include: “Making Facebook, YouTube and Linkoln Work for You” by Mike Sauce on April 15; “Specialty Rug Cleaning” on May 20; “The Lost Art of Hand Finishing” by Alan Spielvogel on June 17; “Workplace Harassment” by attorney Steve Morelli on July 15; “E-Mail Marketing/E-Newsletters: Create Deeper Relationships and Earn More
Dollars” on Aug. 19; “Break Out of the Box: There Are New Sources or Revenue” on Sept. 16; “Finding the Right Wholesaler for Leathers, Rugs, Wedding Gowns” by Alan Spielvogel on Oct. 21; and “Wetcleaning” by Ann Hargrove on Nov. 18.
