CLA helps with evaporation allowance
The Coin Laundry Association (CLA) is releasing a water evaporation allowance toolkit to help owners deal with water shortages and increasing municipal water fees.
Laundry owners are facing increases in both water and sewer fees in many areas of the country, CLA said. One of those is the usage fee, which is based on the theory that the amount of water taken in to a facility is equal to the amount discharged.
The problem with that theory, CLA said, is that some of the water evaporates during the drying process and is not discharged to the sewer system.
CLA’s toolkit is designed to help owners ask for a refund of the charges paid for water that does not get sent back for treatment. A precedent for a water evaporation allowance exists in the allowances and rebates that are often given to homeowners for pools and large gardens.
Understanding the underlying issues is essential for laundry owners to present their case to local authorities in a way that is both persuasive and accurate, CLA noted. The toolkit walks owners through many facets of sewage issues, a history of water and sewer fees and the proper calculation of remaining moisture content.
Armed with this data, laundry owners and distributors can approach local authorities for a water evaporation allowance.
The CLA toolkit contains: a backgrounder; an action plan, checklist and projected annual savings worksheet; sample letters to the governing authority; and a PowerPoint Presentation.
CLA members can access the complete toolkit online at www.coinlaundry.org. The kit also will be available at the Clean Show.
