One-week stain removal course next on DLI slate
With competition in the industry becoming more fierce, cleaners cannot afford to fall to the wayside when it comes to the overall quality of their finished product.
To help prevent that, the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute continues to offer in-depth courses on all subjects related to the drycleaning industry, including classes suited for both newcomers and seasoned veterans.
Coming up on DLI’s 2009 educational schedule is an offering of its one-week Drycleaning Stain Removal course.
The course is designed to emphasize instruction and practical application on numerous topics, including: fibers and fabrics; the principles of drycleaning; load classification; the solvents used in drycleaning; detergents and moisture; filtration and distillation; drying and vapor recovery; bleaches; stain removal agents and procedures; stain removal tools and equipment; and the process of troubleshooting drycleaning equipment.
The next offering of the class will begin on March 23. Another one-week version of the class will take place later in the year starting on Sept. 14.
The cost is $795 for DLI members and $1,149 for everybody else.
DLI will also host sessions of its comprehensive Introduction to Drycleaning and Advanced Drycleaning courses throughout the year.
The association’s Introduction to Drycleaning is a one-week course that is designed to help individuals who are newer to the industry, or basically employees and owners/managers with less than one year of experience under their belts.
The course covers a variety of topics such as: fibers and fabrics; work flow; the principles of the drycleaning process; assembly and invoicing; the drycleaning machine; cleaning and drying cycles; finishing procedures for pants, coats and skirts; and elementary stain removal.
The cost for the course is $795 for DLI members and $1,149 for non-members.
DLI will offer the course on the following start dates: April 20, July 20 and Oct. 19.
Typically, the association hosts its two-week Advanced Drycleaning class immediately on the heels of the introductory course. The advanced course is aptly suited for employees and owners/managers with more than one year of experience, or who have successfully completed the basic course.
The advanced class focuses on: specialty fabrics and fiber identification; business management; customer service; plant layout and workflow; regulations and care labeling; troubleshooting the drycleaning system; advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches; finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all-weather coats, pleats, pile fabrics, silks and rayon; wetcleaning; and solvents, detergents, moisture, filtration and distillation for perchloroethylene and petroleum solvents.
The advanced course starts right after the conclusion of the introductory courses, so the start dates for 2009 are: April 27, July 27 and Oct. 26.
Tuition is $1,249 for members and $1,749 for non-members. However, students can opt to take both the introductory and advanced courses back-to-back as a general three-week course and save $449 on course costs.
All of DLI courses offer discounts for plants that send two or more students. Courses are free for members of DLI’s Premier Club, as well.
