SDA releases 2009 schedule of classes at Texas Tech
The Southwest Drycleaners Association will be offering general cleaning and stain removal classes in 2009 at the Fiber & Biopolymer Research Institute.
The school is located on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock. All three courses will be taught by Jane Zellers.
The first course will be held from June 1-5 and cover the topic of general fabricare.
The program will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The one-week course will examine several topics, including: basic customer service; fibers and fabrics; basic stain removal; drycleaning technology; proper classification of garments for quality cleaning and reduced claims; wetcleaning procedures; and dye stripping.
Students will also learn finishing/pressing techniques and tips for producing the “perfect” shirt.
Those who complete the course will gain a better understanding of workflow, proper equipment and layout and its role in production, and methods to achieve productivity and quality.
Course time will be divided between classroom presentation and practical application.
The cost of tuition is $505 for SDA members and $530 for other DLI members. Everybody else must pay $595 each to attend. The cost includes a box lunch for each full day of class.
In November, two classes will be available: stain removal and advanced stain removal.
The stain removal course will take place from Nov. 9-11 and is designed to help those with less drycleaning experience.
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
In those two-and-a-half days, students will learn about proper stain removal techniques, with an emphasis on how dyes, pigments, prints and finishes are all vital aspects of the cleaning process.
The cost is $335 for SDA members and $405 for other DLI members. Non-members must pay $470 each.
Those who have a little more stain removal experience, or who complete the basic stain removal course, will be good candidates for SDA’s advanced stain removal course from Nov. 11-13.
The class will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The two-day course will examine more advanced stain removal techniques covering topics such as: fiber content, weaves, garment construction and how to test fiber content by burn testing.
The cost for the course is $325 for SDA members and $390 for other DLI members. Non-members must pay $455 each.
