MAC series visits top plants in region
The MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners is continuing its “Best of MAC” series of tours and seminars at top drycleaning plants in the region.
Last year, the association’s series included visits to Bergmann’s plant in Sterling, VA, the flagship plant of Puritan Cleaners in Richmond, VA, Presto Valet in Alexandria, VA, and Glyndon-Lord Baltimore
Cleaners in Glyndon, MD.
Most recently, ClassiCleaners in Alexandria, VA, hosted MAC members and guests
for an afternoon tour and mini-seminars on March 29. The plant uses GreenEarth
solvent in new cleaning machines that do not require steam or water, making for
simpler installation and lower utility costs. After the tour, presentations
were given by Frank Emanuele and Andy Goldberg of District Cleaners Equipment;
the ClassiCleaners staff was on hand to answer questions, also.
Additional presentations were given by representatives of Cleaners Capital
Corp., USB Credit Card Processing, Klinger & Associates and Metromedia Power.
The next “Best of MAC” program will be Saturday, May 30 at Clothes Call in Bowie, MD. Also planned is a visit to Albano
Cleaners on Saturday, Oct. 3.
In addition to plant tours and seminars, the sessions include a light lunch. The
programs are free to those who RSVP. For information, call Richard Ehrenreich,
MAC’s executive director, (800) 235-8360.
Herson seeks backers for cancer walk
Allied tradesman Ron Herson says he want to raise “big bucks” for the fight against breast cancer by participating in a three-day walk this
fall sponsored by Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
In addition to raising funds — his goal is $10,000 — from donors to the cause, Herson said he will be undertaking hundreds of miles
of training and walking leading up to the event itself in which he will walk 20
miles a day over three consecutive days.
Proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust to
fund breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.
The Breast Cancer Walk is a series of three-day events that will take place
across the country, beginning in Boston in July and ending in San Diego in
November, visiting 15 cities along the way.
In addition to raising funds, the event is designed to increase awareness of
breast cancer and foster a positive community of breast cancer survivors,
co-survivors, persons currently undergoing treatment and others impacted by the
disease.
Last year’s series of walks, which took place in 14 cities, raised more than $110 million
through donations, contributions and sponsorships.
Herson has announced that Air World Press Pad Co. will be supporting his effort
by donating $10 for every press pad purchased by September.
All donors will receive recognition on Herson’s participant page on the event’s web site, www.the3day.org.
For more information or to donate, contact Herson at (301) 417-1300 or by e-mail
at supplyguys@hotmail.com.
