Lubbock school to host three fabric care, spotting classes
Throughout 2009, the Fiber & Biopolymer Research Institute will host classes to help those who need to learn a little about everything, and a lot about spotting.
The school is located on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Jane Zellers is the instructor for all of its classes.
First up will be a General Fabricare course that will run from June 1-5. Class times will be as follows: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The one-week course will cover all aspects a person in the cleaning industry should know, from basic customer service to fibers and fabrics to basic stain removal.
Other subjects will include: drycleaning technology; proper classification of garments for quality cleaning and reduced claims; wetcleaning procedures; dye stripping; and methods for workflow and productivity.
The class, which is worth nine Award of Excellence points, costs $505 for SDA members, $530 for other DLI members, and $595 for non-members.
Later in the year, SDA will offer two stain removal classes, both worth five AoE points.
Those with less experience on the spotting board may want to take the basic course, which runs from Nov. 9-11.
Class hours are: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Those who attend will learn proper stain removal technqiues and how dyes, pigments, prints and finishes are all vital concerns of the cleaning process.
Tuition is $335 for SDA members, $405 for other DLI members, and $470 for others.
The Advanced Stain Removal course will immediately follow from Nov. 11-13. Class hours are: 1 to 4:30 p.m .on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The class is suitable for cleaners with more spotting experience, or who have completed the basic course.
Zellers will demonstrate more advanced techniques, including some hands-on training with bleaches.
Tuition is $325 for SDA members, $390 for other DLI members, and $455 for all others.

FabriClean hosts spotting in Houston
The A.L. Wilson Chemical Compay and the Kenney Slatten Training Company will both present an upcoming spotting seminar in the Lone Star State at FabriClean Supply.
The event will be hosted on Saturday, May 9 at the FabricClean Supply located at 337 Yale in Houston.
The program will begin at 9 a.m. and end at approximately noon.
It is designed to be useful to cleaners of all levels of experience, whether it is only a couple of weeks at the spotting board, or a couple of decades.
Those who attend will learn about all of the different bleaching techniques and how to avoid costly garment claims.
Several drycleaning technologies will be covered, as well, including perc, hydrocarbon and wetcleaning.
The cost is $40 per plant. Each plant can bring three or four people to the seminar.
