NCA hosts LA seminar on essentials of building routes
The National Cleaners Association is offering a one-day seminar in California that will feature route expert John
Olmstead, Jr.
The title of the workshop is “The Eight Essentials to Building and Running a Route That Makes Real Money.”
The program will be held on Friday, May 8 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel near LAX
Airport in Los Angeles.
Olmstead will draw upon his experience with Widmer’s Cleaners of Cincinnati, OH, to help attendees learn how to develop and
maintain a successful pickup and delivery business during tough economic times.
Not only did Olmstead see his own business through turbulent economic times, he
also grew up in the industry, helping his father navigate the family business
through the economic downturn in the 1970s until it emerged as one of the more
successful cleaners in the country.
According to Event Coordinator Vivian Benn, who works as NCA’s director of member services, Olmstead’s experience speaks for itself.
“While there are many self-proclaimed and wonderful ‘route builders’ in the market, none of them have John Olmstead’s extensive industry credentials and proven track record,” she said. “We’re very excited that he’s willing to share all that knowledge with other cleaners.”
The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 5 p.m.
During that time, Olmstead will break down and explore eight essential
components to building and running successful delivery routes:
1. How to find, train and compensate the route driver and what the role of the
manager should be.
2. Equipment and supplies necessary for a new route.
3. Cash control, billing and inventory.
4. How to select the best location to start and how to set it up so it’s most efficient.
5. Marketing your route from A to Z including proven sales contests and other
tactics that will dramatically increase sales on new and existing routes.
6. The secret that will let you stay profitable, while accommodating customer
service requests and retaining the most profitable customers.
7. How routes can complement (not detract from) dry stores and single location
plants.
8. The “start up” and operational traps to avoid if you want to succeed.
The cost of registration for the event is $495 for NCA members and $595 for
non-NCA members. That cost includes lunch and seminar materials.
The seminar is free for NCA’s Platinum Members.
