MILD unveils schedule for its annual convention in late July
The Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning has planned a busy three
days in July for cleaners attend its annual convention which will be held from
July 24-26 at the Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, MI.
MILD will kick off the weekend early on Friday with a three-hour board meeting
starting at 1 p.m. Afterward, registration will be open to arriving cleaners
between 4 and 5 p.m.
During the evening, the association will host dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by
entertainment provided by Bob Bloenk, a comedic guitarist who specializes in
impressions and song parodies.
On Saturday morning, cleaners will have another chance to register at 8 a.m.,
just in time to attend the weekend’s first educational session by James Peuster, aka The Route Pro.
In addition to being a columnist for National Clothesline, Peuster is one of the
industry’s leading consultants, having traveled to over 100 drycleaning plants in the
past four years.
He will deliver a program on “Changing Your Mindset During These Changing Times” where he will share some of the best business practices he has witnessed
firsthand in the past three years to show cleaners what is working and what is
not.
The program will last about an hour and 45 minutes. Afterward, MILD has planned
another seminar from 10:45 to noon.
Andrea Kolasinski Marcinkus, Assistance Professor of the Fashion Department at
Mt. Mary College, will present “Plug Into High-Tech Fabrics.”
Marcinkus recently completed her doctoral degree in Design Studies at the
University of Wisconsin - Madison where she also previously received her M.S.
degree in Textiles and Clothing.
She will speak on a variety of subjects including concerns on new advances in
textile technology and how concepts of nature and science influence the
drycleaning industry.
Cleaners will have the afternoon free to enjoy themselves. Some options include
a golf outing that will start at 12:40. The cost is $60 for members and $75 for
non-members and includes nine holes of golf with a box lunch and cart rental.
There is also a two-hour canoe outing that costs $57 for members and $75 for
non-members.
During the evening, the association will host a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m.
followed by its black tie Annual President’s Gala & Awards ceremony.
Rooms at the Shanty Creek Resort are available at a discounted rate for
attendees. The cost is $135 per room per night for single/double occupancy in
the Run of House section; those who want a Parlor Suite can pay $162 per room
per night.
Those prices are only good for those who make reservations by June 23.
Individual registrations must be made using a form offered from MILD. Call in
reservations will not be accepted at the group discount.

Full convention registration packages are available at a discounted rate for
those who sign up prior to July 11.
The cost is $165 for members and $195 for non-members until that date;
afterwards, it climbs up to $185 for members and $215 for non-members.
