MAC visits Clothes Call in MD for plant tour and labor lecture
Nearly 50 members of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Cleaners attended a recent
plant tour and lecture hosted by Clothes Call in Crofton, MD.
The visit was the tenth in MAC’s “Best of Plant Tour” series where members open their business’s doors to each other in hopes of sharing successful strategies.
Clothes Call, owned by Josie and Joe Wong, was originally founded in 1983 by
former MAC Director Tom Tangelos.
These days, the cleaners is one of the largest and best-known restoration
cleaners in the country with 20,000 square feet of production space. The
multi-level 8,000 square feet of storage space can concurrently handle a
multitude of the largest jobs available.
Clothes Call utilizes drycleaning, laundry, plus considerable wetcleaning to
clean its garments, which they transport with a fleet of vans, as well as a
cargo truck.
The modern plant has a few advantages on its side: a stable and well-trained
workforce; long-term management securely in place; and a loyal client base.
Prior to the tour, the plant served as the site of a seminar entitled “Surviving in an Anti-Business Climate” by attorney Frank Kollman who writes a column on labor law issues for the
readers of National Clothesline.
A graduate of John Hopkins University and the Syracuse University College of
Law, Kollman has practiced management labor law for over 30 years now.
During his presentation, he noted that one of the most important issues that the
small business community will be facing in the future days of the Obama
Administration will be an increased influence from labor on both the national
and state levels of government.
After the seminar, attendees had the opportunity for some free legal advice
during a question and answer session.
For more information on the programs, contact Richard Ehrenreich, MAC’s executivee director, (301) 570-3000, ext. 10.
