Schmitt, Swink to conduct Minnesota spotting series
The Minnesota Cleaners Association will enlist instructors Dennis Schmitt and
Tom Swink to present three four-hour sessions of spotting seminars that will
cater to all levels of experience: beginner, intermediate and advanced.
The programs will take place on Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25, at Clean n’ Press in West St. Paul, MN.
The duo hosted two classes last November that sold out fast, so early
registration is recommended. The classes will each be limited to a maximum of
25 attendees.
The cost is $125 per member, per experience level, for those who sign up prior
to July 5. After that date, the cost goes up $20 for each session.
Non-members must pay $250 each, but $125 will be credited toward new association
membership for those who join MCA within one week of the seminars.
There is a 15 percent discount for plants that sign up three or more employees
for the seminars.
The session for beginners will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on July 24. It will cover:
spotting board techniques and maintenance; fabrics, buttons, construction and
limits; chemicals, including dry side; and spot removal on an assortment of
materials.
The intermediate session meets from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The agenda
includes a review of stains and chemicals, fabric identification, burn testing,
acids and alkalis, and more advanced spot removal on various materials.
Finally, the advanced session will run later that day from 1 to 5 p.m. Some of
the topics to be covered include: bleaches, wedding gowns, and spotting with
bleaches on various materials.
Attendees are invited to bring a garment to work on during this class.
