Nick Kaskashian, Sr., president of Frankford Associates, Inc. in Philadelphia, PA, died on July 7 at age 66. He apparently suffered a heart attack while working at his desk at company headquarters.
He was born in Bristol, PA, the son of the late Arsen and Katherine Kashkashian. After graduation from Abington High School, he attended Temple University where he studied business administration.
He attained the rank of sergeant while serving in the U.S. Army 302nd Air Traffic Control Co. He was on active duty in the Army Reserve at Fort Sill, OK, in 1964 and 1965 and continuing in the Reserve for five more years.
He entered the drycleaning supply business that had been started by his father and worked there for 40 years. He was eventually joined in the business by his sons, Nick, Jr. and Eric.
His brother, Ron, is also part of the family business, which had grew out a drycleaning business started by Arsen Kashkashian after immigrating to the United States in the 1920s looking to apply his skills as a tailor. The senior Kashkashian remained active in the business until his death at age 97 in 2006.
The firm not only became the predominant drycleaning equipment supply house in the Philadelphia area but also did business around the country and abroad, including recently in China.
He enjoyed family vacations in the Outer Banks, Philadelphia sports and fast cars. He owned a 1994 Corvette. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Talia.
He married Jane Maxwell in 1968 after they met at a wedding. She preceded him in death in 2007. In addition to his sons and brother who worked with him at Frankford Associates, he is survived by another brother, Arsen, Jr.
Services were held at Holy Trinity Armenian Church in Cheltenham, PA, where he was a member.
