Drycleaning, finishing courses on SEFA’s slate
The South Eastern Fabricare Association will be offering a pair of classes designed to help drycleaners improve their craft thsi fall.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the association has enlisted Jim Groshans and Orville Johnson to teach a “Drycleaning 101” session at Best Care Cleaners located at 4810 NW 35th Ave. in Miami, FL.
The class will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Tuition is $15 for SEFA/DLI members and $49 for non-members. Lunch will not be provided to attendees.
The same course will be taught by Groshans on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Mobile, AL.
It will take place at Waite’s Cleaners, (251) 473-4984.
Also coming up is a finishing seminar offered by the association on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Drycleaning and Laundry Institute instructor Brian Johnson will be on hand between 12:30 and 5 p.m. to help attendees improve their finishing quality on a variety of garments. The class will take place at CKF Laundry Service at 6055 Powers Ave., Unit 110 in Jacksonville, FL.
Registration is $35 for SEFA/DLI members and $60 for non-members. Lunch will not be provided.
Also on the horizon from the association is its 2010 Southern Drycleaners Show which will take place on July 17 and 18 of next year.
The event will be held at the Tampa Bay Convention Center in Tampa, FL.
Those who want to pre-register may do so on SEFA’s web site for only $10 prior to July 15, 2010. After that date, the cost will go up to $15 for on-site registration.

New office assistant for NCALC
The North Carolina Association of Launderers and Cleaners recently hired Katherine (Katy) Barker as its new part-time administrative assistant.
The position was formerly held by Connie Sugg who was hired back in May of 2005.
NCALC said it was grateful for Sugg’s four years of excellent dedication and service to the association. She had been seeking full-time employment since graduating with a degree in Psychology at Guilford College and was recently hired as the manager of the Battleground Biz Center in Greensboro.
Barker was singled out to fill the opening from a pool of 300 applicants. She is a 2000 graduate of UNC-Greensboro with a degree in Interior Architecture.
She also has over eight years of office management experience with a broad range of responsibilities, including: project management, trade show and annual meeting organization, marketing communications in both print and multimedia, printing production, website design and search engine optimization, as well as financial management.
Barker describes herself as a quality-focused professional with strong qualifications in office administration; a computer virtuoso in Windows and Mac environments; skilled graphic and web designer; and a multi-tasker with strong communications and organizational skills.
