NCA covers calendar with courses for first half of 2010
With 2009 winding its way down, the National Cleaners Association has released its 2010 schedule for educational opportunities at its New York School of Drycleaning.
Classes on drycleaning, wetcleaning, stain removal and finishing along with state-required certification courses will be offered with many of them also featuring a Korean edition.
Still remaining on the 2009 schedule is a webinar on wetcleaning featuring Ann Hargrove on Wednesday, December 16 at 6 p.m. EST.
A full one-day, eight-hour wetcleaning course will be offered by the association on Sunday, Jan. 24.   The cost is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Also that month will be a three-day course on “Basic Pressing and Finishing” from Jan. 29 to 31. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The cost is $455 for members and $595 for non-members.
On Sunday, Feb. 7, NCA will host a one-day seminar on “Intensive Bleaching” that runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuition is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Cleaners needing to obtain or renew their DEC certification will have a pair of upcoming opportunities
NCA offers two-day courses on consecutive Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The class will be in English on Feb. 14 and 21 and in Korean on March 7 and 14.
The cost is $795 for members and $1,295 for non-members.
Next up is a five-day, 40-hour class on “Radical Drycleaning and Stain Removal.”
It will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tuition is $750 for members and $995 for non-members. A version of the class in Korean is scheduled from March 1 to 5.
One of NCA’s signature courses, “Principles and Practices of Pressing,” will also start on March 1.
Students will meet from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays for a four-week period in order to learn about the fundamentals of garment finishing. The cost is $380 per person.
Korean drycleaners will have a chance to take the ten-week, 80-hour NCA course on “Comprehensive Drycleaning” from March 2 to May 6. The class meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 11 p.m. during that time period.
To attend, Korean cleaners must pay $970 if they are members and $1,170 if they are not.
A ten-week course in English on “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning” will take place from April 5 to June 21 on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 11 p.m.
Students will learn the fundamentals of drycleaning, wetcleaning, stain removal, bleaching, digesting, and the proper use of spotting equipment.
Fabrics, dyes and garment construction, including their relationship to the fabricare industry are also covered in detail. Tuition is $970 per student.
