NCA adds courses, plans 2010 webinar schedule
The new year has only just begun but the National Cleaners Association has added more educational course dates to its 2010 schedule and announced topics for its monthly webinars through July.
For cleaners who can’t get away to attend courses at the New York School of Drycleaning, NCA also offers several webinars that can be attended via telephone or Internet.
The webinar series starts this month with Alan Spielvogel discussing  “Problem Garments 2010” on Jan. 20.
Other scheduled topics and dates include “60 Things in 60 Days You Need to Do to Start a Route” with James Peuster on Feb. 17; “How to Handle a Clean Up” with Mike Tatch on March 17; “Search Engine Optimization” with Dwain Jeworski on April 21; “Customer Service” with Jennifer Johnson on May 19; “Removing Difficult Stains” with Spielvogel on June 16 and “Social Media” with Norman Way on July 21.
Webinars start at 6 p.m. eastern time on their specified Wednesday and cost $69 for telephone and Web-based participation. Past webinars dating back to 2005 are available for order from NCA.
The association also announced additions to its 2010 schedule of courses at the New York School of Drycleaning. The one-day wetcleaning course previously announced for Sunday, Jan. 24 now has a second date of Nov. 7.
Both courses will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., which is the typical hourly schedule for most of the association’s full-day sessions.
The cost is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
A second offering of NCA’s three-day “Basic Pressing and Finishing” course has been added from Sept. 24 to 26. Prior to that, the association will host the class from Jan. 29 to 31. The cost is $455 for members and $595 for non-members.
The one-day “Intensive Bleaching” on Feb. 7 will also be offered Oct. 10. Tuition is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
NCA also made changes to its “Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal” course. The course dates are now Feb. 8 to 12 and Aug. 2 to 6.
The class meets for 40 hours  from Monday through Friday. Tuition is $750 for members and $995 for non-members.
The comprehensive course covers drycleaning, stain removal, bleaching and the proper use of stain removal equipment as well as fabrics, dyes and garment construction.
Cleaners needing to obtain or update their DEC certification will have a new opportunity on June 6 and 13. The first DEC certification classes will be held Feb. 14 and 21; sessions on March 7 and 14 will be offered on Korean.
The classes meet on consecutive Sundays for a total of 16 hours. The cost is $795 for members and $1,295 for non-members.
NCA has also expanded new dates for its courses on “Technical Training at the Counter,” “Extreme Stain Removal” and “Intensive Inspection and Innovative Packaging.” All three one-day courses cost $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
“Technical Training at the Counter” will take place on March 21 and April 18.
“Extreme Stain Removal” will meet on April 11 and June 13. The latter outing will be in Korean. The “Intensive Inspection and Innovative Packaging” class will be in session on May 2 and Dec. 12.

Sanitone licensees to meet in Boston
The 65th annual meeting of New England Sanitone licensees will be January 7-9 at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Boston, MA.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Unlock Your Potential.” The speakers and topics will be based on leveraging assets in this strained economic environment and using different tools and ideas to differentiate and guide a business for success through tough times.
Speakers and topics include: John Graham of Graham Communications on marketing; Scott Shmalberg of Scotch Cleaners on technical issues; Mike Tatch, president of TTS Associates, on environmental issues; Bill Taylor, general manager of The Four Seasons, on customer service; Craig Bailey of Customer Centricity, Inc. on planning and execution to create delighted customers.
Round-table discussions will also be held.
The executive committee of the New England Sanitone licensees is extending an invitation to all current licensees and prospective licensees who would like to explore the benefits of being a Sanitone licensee.
