Tensioning finisher
CARLSTADT, NJ — The Turbo 483 is the newest tensioning shirt finisher from Hi-Steam, featuring high production with 25 percent less steam consumption.
Turbo483.jpg
Typical tensioning shirt finishers have a longer operating cycle than a hard-buck (metal) shirt finisher, but the Turbo-483 can finish shirts in about the same time as a hard-buck shirt finisher, with production rate of 50 to 60 shirts per hour with one operator. This is achieved by a super-heated form for shoulder seams and  the sleeve vent, giving a beautiful finish with high production.
A new energy saver hood behind the form draws in hot air used in the operating cycle to re-use it in the next operating cycle. Reusing the hot air means less steam is needed for producing hot air (25 percent less steam consumption), resulting in reduced energy cost, and less steam escapes from the machine, resulting in a cooler work environment for the operator and the plant.
Like all other Hi-Steam tensioning machines, the Turbo-483 will give a perfect finish on shirts from large (3XL) to small, dark or light color, and on all types of fabric, including cotton, linen, silk and Spandex with no broken buttons and little or no touch-ups.

Payment processing certification
DRAPER, UT — SPOT Business Systems received Payment Card Industry (PCI) certification in January after more than a year of intensive software enhancement to comply with the new PCI standards.
The PCI Security Standards Council is an open global forum for the ongoing development, enhancement, storage, dissemination and implementation of security standards for account data protection. The council’s mission is to enhance payment account data security by driving education and awareness of the PCI Security Standards. The organization was founded by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa.
July 2010 is the deadline set by the PCI standards board for PCI compliance. The PCI mandate means credit card companies must require PCI compliance at the merchant’s location and related Point-Of-Sale (POS) software in order to continue processing credit card payments. If compliance is not met by a merchant, the provider of credit card processing may choose to discontinue the merchant’s credit card processing until PCI compliance is met.
“This is a very big deal for both merchants and POS software providers in the drycleaning industry,” said Mark Jones, SPOT’s vice president of technology. “There is no law requiring PCI compliance, but payment processors can deny any merchant the right to process credit cards using non-compliant software after the July 2010 deadline.”
In addition to its software, SPOT’s payment processor, Payment Processing, Inc. (PPI) and its hosted server farm are both PCI certified.
SPOT v6 (Windows) is available now and will be the only PCI compliant version of software provided by SPOT Business Systems. SPOT (Windows) standalone customers who use integrated credit card processing will need to upgrade to SPOT v6 (Windows) before July. SPOT hosting customers have already been updated to SPOT v6.
Jones said that PCI-level encryption utilities are not available for DOS-based software development, making it impossible for SPOT Classic PCI to comply. Customers who currently use any version of SPOT Classic to process credit cards should plan to switch to SPOT (Windows) v6 or use a PCI compliant bank terminal.
