NCA’s Spielvogel to speak in Michigan
The Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning will head to Garland Lodge and Resort in Lewiston, MI, for its 97th annual Summer Convention this month.
Set to take place from July 23 to 25, the event will feature National Cleaners Association’s Alan Spielvogel as its principal speaker.
Spielvogel, who works as the association’s director of technical services and as its chief garment analyst for the National Center for Garment Analysis, has logged in over 40 years in the drycleaning industry.
In addition to owning and operating his own plant, he has attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and has authored numerous publications and manuals regarding fabrics, drycleaning, wetcleaning, machinery operation and maintenance.
These days he serves as a consultant to the drycleaning industry as well as major clothing manufacturers.
He contributes columns to two national drycleaning publications and has also been featured in many national periodicals such as Martha Stewart Living, The National Enquirer, Good Housekeeping, Pure and Simple, Essence, In Style, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
He has also served as a consultant to the Guggenheim Museum, the Fashion Institute of Technology and Marymount College.
He will be delivering three educational programs on Saturday, July 24, starting with one on “Customer Relations at the Counter — The Importance of Customer Service” at 8:45 a.m.
At 10 a.m., he will examine “Problem Garments — The Bad and the Ugly of Current Fashions” followed by another program entitled “Small Upcharges Equal Big Dollars” at 11 a.m.
In addition to the educational programs, MILD will also host numerous social and fun activities throughout the weekend.
MILD will host its annual board meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Afterward, the association will open registration for the conference from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by an evening of dinner and entertainment from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, attendees will have free time to enjoy after noon. One popular option will be a round of golf that is slated to start at 12:40 p.m. The cost is $67 for members and $75 for non-members and includes nine holes, a golf cart and a box lunch.
Cleaners may also enjoy a canoe outing that is scheduled to start at about 1 p.m. and last three hours.
Later in the evening, MILD will host a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Annual President’s Gala & Awards dinner at 7:30 p.m. Black tie attire is required.
Convention registration packages are available at a rate of $185 per person for members and $215 for non-members. The package includes admittance to the Friday night dinner and entertainment, the Saturday breakfast, the Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast vouchers and all speaker sessions.
The cost for spouses, guests or teens is $125 per person for members and $155 for non-members. The cost for children under 12 to register is $50 for members and $60 for non-members; however, children under the age of five are all admitted for free.
Those who do register have until July 5 cancel and still receive a full refund if they can’t attend. No refunds will be granted after July 15.

Ohio cleaners golf outing July 28
The Ohio Cleaners Association will hosting its Allied Trades Appreciation and Member Golf Outing in Sunbury, OH, Wednesday, July 28 at the Bent Tree Golf Club at 350 Bent Tree Road on.
The cost to participate is $65 for allied trades members, $80 for OCA members and $125 for non-members. Lunch and registration will start at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., dinner will be served and door prizes will be awarded.
Those who plan to participate must sign up no later than July 23. There are no refunds after that date, as well.
