Claire Anchick, a drycleaning plant owner and past-president of the Oregon Dry Cleaners Association, died June 11 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
Born in Denver, CO, she lived in a variety of places during her youth and attended 13 different schools. The experience fueled a life-long passion for travel. Beginning at age 19, she spent a year touring the world before she met her husband, Jack, to whom she was married for 46 years. The couple had two sons, John and Troy, and two grandchildren.
They settled in Ashland, OR, where she opened a storefront hot dog restaurant that also served sushi and a variety of sandwiches. The entire family worked together in the business. Eventually the call of the river led the family to move to their current home on the banks of the Rogue River near Gold Hill.
Soon after locating there, Claire and Jack opened Towne and Country Cleaners in White City, which is known throughout the area for excellent customer service and the catchy tagline, “Got Your Purple Bag?”
She became involved in the Oregon Dry Cleaners Association where she took a position on the board of directors. During her years on the board, she served as secretary and was a past president.
She was also active on and chaired many association committees including the education and convention committees. She also edited and distributed the ODCA newsletter for two years while it was still in print form.
She was also active in the Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford and Upper Rogue Chambers of Commerce and was involved in the local Soroptimist International of Medford, using her expertise and management skills to advance the status of women and make the world better for all.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Camelot Theater Company, P.O. Box 780, Talent, OR.
