September will bring a second opportunity for cleaners to attend installments of the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute’s stain removal and workflow productivity courses at DLI headquarters in Laurel, MD.

The five-day drycleaning and stain removal course will be offered Sept. 13-17, providing instruction and hands-on practice on stain removal and cleaning procedures.

The course covers sorting loads for drycleaning; cleaning silk, satin, and other fabrics; removing coffee, ink, grease, and other stains; identifying cotton, silk, polyester, and other fabrics and using bleaches without damaging the fabric color.

Also covered will be operating drycleaning machines; maintaining filters; troubleshooting the drycleaning machine; and understanding differences between solvents.

The course costs $795 for DLI members; two or more students from the same DLI member plant may attend for $659 each. Non-members pay $1,149. DLI Premier Club members may send as many students as they want for free.

Last spring DLI added a new seminar on “Lot System Workflow Productivity Training” taught by Don Desrosiers Tailwind Systems. The course will be offered again Sept. 27-29.

With hands-on instruction, Desrosiers focuses on using lot systems to streamline assembly and bagging, eliminating the end of the day rush to get everything accounted for and bagged; eliminating assembly errors; maximizing efficiency and productivity.

The course is designed for owners, managers and other key staff who will be taught how to train other staff members in the methods.

The class meets from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. The cost is $299 for DLI Premier Club members, $499 for other DLI members and $699 for non members.

The DLI Live series of web-based seminars will also continue in September 22 with a session on energy savings and ROI led by Tom Ustanik.

Registration for the on-line seminars costs $59 for DLI members and is free for Premier Members.
