MWDLA set for September convention
Everything from education to networking to a nice relaxing round of golf will be
available to attendees of the Midwest Drycleaners and Launderers Association’s annual fall convention. It will be held on Sept. 10 and 11.
This year, the event will be hosted at the Hotel Nashville, located at 245 North
Jefferson St. in Nashville, IN.
MWDLA reserved a discounted room rate of $139 plus tax at the hotel for those
who sign up before Sept. 1; after that date, reservations will depend on the
availability of rooms.
Prior to the convention events starting, the association will host its Bob Hale
Golf Scramble 2010 at the Salt Creek Golf Course at 2359 State Rd 46 E. in
Nashville on Friday morning.
The cost is $60 per person, or $200 for a team of four. Golfers will be
responsible for their own lunch.
Collared shirts and soft spikes are required to play on the course. Cut-offs are
not allowed. Mulligans, however, are allowed, provided golfers pay $5 extra
during registration. Sign-up will begin at 8 a.m. and golfers will tee off at
approximately 9 a.m.
Later in the afternoon, MWDLA will host a board meeting at the Hotel Nashville
between 4 and 5 p.m.
Afterward, attendees can enjoy cocktails and snacks while visiting allied trades
members tabletop displays from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
A dinner buffet with business casual dress will start at 6 p.m. with
entertainment following at 7:30 p.m. at the Coachlight Musical Theater.
Educational sessions will take place on Saturday morning starting with a
two-hour program by Norman Way, operations manager at Puritan Cleaners in
Richmond, VA, since 2003.
The theme of his 8 a.m. presentation is “Social Networking,” something he has incorporated at Puritan in order to take the company’s communications and relations to the next level.
Demonstrating how to utilize networks such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and
more, Way will offer up many ways that drycleaners can apply such tools to the
drycleaning industry.
At 10 a.m., MWDLA will host its annual meeting at which Drycleaning and Laundry
Institute Senior Vice President Mary Scalco will speak on the topic “Regulatory Issues in the United States: Will They Affect You?”
Scalco first joined the Institute in 1979. She holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Textile Chemistry from the University of Maryland and is an active
member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC)
and the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Currently, she assists DLI CEO Bill Fisher with the overall management of the
association’s activities.
The cost to attend MWDLA’s annual convention is $135 per person. For those planning on attending Saturday’s events only can pay $95 each for admission.
The cost for guests who are not attending the Saturday events is also $95 per
person.
For more information or to register, call MWDLA, (800) 401-0703.
Minnesota cleaners to golf on record-setting course
Good golfers and bad golfers alike are invited to attend the Minnesota Cleaners Association’s Allied Trades Golf Outing slated to start at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
The event will be at the Stone Ridge Golf Club, located at 13600 N. Hudson
Boulevard in Stillwater, MN.
The course was ranked as the #1 public access golf course in the Twin Cities by
GolfWeek magazine.
It plays so well, it might feel like time breezes by. On June 28 Stoneridge
Assistant Professional Eddie Wynne set the world record for the fastest 18-hole
round of golf there: 26 minutes and 7 seconds.
Of course, it might take MCA golfers a little longer than that. Golfers will
start the sign-up process at noon, enjoy a box lunch and practice and mingle
until the 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.
Dinner and prizes will be rewarded at the clubhouse at approximately 5 p.m.
The cost of the event is $95 for a person, which includes cart rental, a box
lunch and admission to the dinner ceremony.
Those who plan on attending the dinner ceremony only must pay $30 each to
attend.
For more information, contact the MCA office at (763) 231-3231.
