DLI’s 2012 class schedule begins
The first of three offerings in 2012 of the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute’s introductory drycleaning courses at the School of Drycleaning Technology in Laurel, MD, will begin next month.
The five-day Introduction to Drycleaning course, intended for employees and owners/managers with less than one year of experience, will begin Feb. 27.
The course will also be offered in July 16 and October this year.
The course covers sorting loads for drycleaning; cleaning silks, satin and other fabrics; operating a drycleaning machine; removing coffee, ink, grease and other stains; pressing pants, coats and skirts; and using tensioning equipment.
Tuition is $795 each for DLI members and $1,149 each for non-members.
Immediately following will be the first 2012 installment of the Advanced Drycleaning course. The ten-day course begins March 5 and will be offered again in March and October.
This course is for those who have completed the introductory course or have more than one year of production experience. It covers identifying fabrics; using bleaches; pressing blouses, dresses, ties, pleated garments, silks, velvets and corduroy; and wetcleaning wool and silk.
Also covered is machinery maintenance and troubleshooting, regulations, customer service techniques, wedding gown preservation, understanding the different solvents, pressing laundered shirts and designing drycleaning plants for the best workflow.
The cost for the advanced course is $1,249 for DLI members and $1,749 for non-members.
The introductory and advanced courses can be taken separately or consecutively. When the two courses are taken consecutively, the cost is $1,595 for DLI members and $3,495 for all others.
The one-week introductory course will also be offered at various locations around the country this year. Next stop for the on-the-road series will be this month in Anaheim, CA, Jan 23-27.
Also on the 2012 schedule is a five-day Cleaning and Stain Removal course from June 4 to 8. This course includes instruction sorting loads for drycleaning;cleaning silk, satin and other fabrics; operating a drycleaning machine; removing coffee, ink grease and other stains; identifying cotton, silk, polyester and other fabrics; using bleaches; maintaining filters; troubleshooting the drycleaning machine; and understanding the different solvents.
Tuition is $795 for DLI members and $1,149 for others.
