DLI sets course schedule for 2013
The Drycleaning & Laundry Institute’s School of Drycleaning Technology will offer three sessions of its three-week drycleaning course, a one week cleaning and stain removal course and a two-day wetcleaning course in Laurel, MD, next year.
The three-week course is divided into two sections — a one-week introduction to drycleaning followed by a two-week advanced drycleaning course. Students can enroll for either one of the courses or take the two consecutively.
Starting dates for the three-week sessions in 2013 are February 25, July 15 and October 14.
Other offerings on the 2013 schedule are a five-day cleaning and stain removal class beginning September 19 and a two-day wetcleaning class on June 3-4.
The Introduction to Drycleaning course covers the basics, including sorting loads for drycleaning; cleaning silk, satin, and other fabrics; operating a drycleaning machine; removing coffee, ink, grease, and other stains from clothing; pressing pants, coats, skirts; and using tensioning equipment to improve finishing quality.
The course is $795 for DLI members, or $659 each for two or more from the same member plant. DLI Premier Club Members may attend or send a student free. Non-member tuition is $1,149 each.
The Advanced Drycleaning Course explores more in-depth topics and is for students who have completed the introductory course or who have hands-on production experience and knowledge of basic stain removal and finishing techniques.
Topics include identifying cotton, silk, polyester, and other fabrics; using bleaches without damaging the fabric color; pressing blouses, dresses, ties, pleated garments, silks, velvets, and corduroy; wetcleaning wool, silk; maintaining and changing filters; troubleshooting problems with the drycleaning machine; and using tensioning equipment to improve finishing quality.
The advanced course is $1,249 for DLI members or $1,049 each for two or more students from the same company. Non-member tuition is $1,749 each.
When the introductory and advanced courses are taken together as a 15-Day General Drycleaning Course, a discount is offered. The cost is $1,595 for DLI members or $1,295 each for two or more students from the same company. Non-member tuition is $2,495.
