The deadline is December 31 to register for the next round of Drycleaning & Laundry Institute certification examinations which will be given February 9-23, 2013.
Certification is offered in three areas: Certified Professional Drycleaner
(CPD), Certified Professional Wetcleaner (CPW) and Certified Environmental
Cleaner (CED). Those who earn all three certifications qualify for the
recognition of Certified Garment Care Professional.
Any individual who owns or is employed in an operating drycleaning business is
eligible to apply for certification. Those who pass a standard examination are
granted the right to use the industry–endorsed title, Certified Professional Drycleaner (CPD), Certified Professional
Wetcleaner (CPW), and Certified Environmental Cleaner (CED), Those who attain
all three certification qualify for the designation of Certified Garment Care
Professional (CGCP).
Depending on the exam, a successful candidate must achieve a satisfactory score
on a multiple–choice examination pertaining to business management, customer service, fibers
and fabrics, stain removal, environmental regulations, proper waste handling,
safe operating procedures, and the drycleaning and wetcleaning processes.
Candidates for certification can prepare for the examination by reading self–study guides that are automatically sent upon registration. One of more exams
can be taken at any point within the two-week testing period.
DLI recommends that those seeking certification have practical drycleaning
experience to draw from before taking the exam. Candidates can further prepare
by reading the self–study guides in advance of taking the test.
To register, contact DLI’s Education Department, (800) 638-2627. The candidates’ handbook and application can be downloaded at Professional Testing Corporation’s website, www.ptcny.com/clients/
DLI/index.html.
To find the nearest testing center, go to LaserGrade Testing Center’s website, www.lasergrade.com, and click on “Find a Testing Center” under the Testing Candidates drop-down menu, and plug in your zip code or other
search mechanism.
Fees for each exam are $410. For DLI members the fee is $310.
