Drycleaning alternatives summit coming to Denver in March
With greater government and public concern continuing to mount towards perc drycleaning and its potential effects on the environment, a summit focussing on alternative solvents will be heading to Denver in early March to help plant owners considering the prospect of switching technologies.
The Small Business Assistance Program (SBAP) at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) will be teaming up with the Rocky Mountain Fabricare Association (RMFA), GreenEarth Cleaning, CDPHE’s Hazardous Materials Waste Management Division and the Drycleaning Laundry Institute to bring the event to the Denver Marriott Tech Center on Saturday, March 9.
The facility, which is located at 4900 S. Syracuse St., will host the summit from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event is free to the public.
The first educational sessions of the day will kick off at 9 a.m. an offer a regulatory perspective on “Colorado: Going Green” and ask the question “Are Alternatives Regulated?”
There will be a break after at 10:30 a.m. giving attendees an opportunity to visit the Exhibitor Trade Fair which offers a variety of drycleaning, laundry and wetcleaning resources and equipment.
Exhibitors already signed up include: GreenEarth Cleaning, Katzson Brothers, R.R. Street & Co., Seitz Chemical, A.L. Wilson, Adco/Laidlaw, Caled Industries, Multimatic, Union, Wascomat, Columbia/Ilsa, Spot Business Systems, Rocky Mountain Hanger Company, The Green Garmento, and The Route Pro. The booths will also be open in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
At 11 a.m., there will be a program on “Understanding Professional Wetcleaning: Skills and Tools to be Successful.”
Following lunch, the first session of the afternoon will begin at 1 p.m. and cover “Alternative Solvents: How Do I Choose?”
A panel discussion on alternative solvents featuring allied vendors and drycleaning owners and operators who currently use such technologies will begin at 2:30 p.m.

TCATA to host next conference in San Diego
Last year, the Textile Care Allied Trades Association held its 2012 Conference in Williamsburg, VA. In 2013, the association plans its next conference over 2,600 miles away in San Diego, CA.
The event will take place from July 31 to August 3 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn located at 17550 Bernardo Oaks Dr.
The southern California resort was the winner of a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor. It features over 40,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, accommodations for over 285 guest rooms and suites and an 18-hole championship golf course that has hosted PGA and LPGA events in the past.
At this time, speakers and an itinerary are not available, but last year’s event featured guests such as Dean Minuto of Sales Brain, Hunter Lott of PleaseSueMe.com and Sheila Koefkorn of KEO Marketing.
