Denver summit will showcase alternatives for drycleaners
There is no perfect drycleaning solvent, but there are several excellent options
available on the open market that might be perfect for the right drycleaning
plant.
Cleaners who are considering switching to an alternative solvent will want to
head to Denver in early March so they can learn more about all of the options
available and be able to make a more informed decision on which is the best
cleaning solvent for their business.
With so much public and government concern over the effects of solvents on the
environment, the Rocky Mountain Fabricare Association and the Drycleaning
Laundry Institute have teamed up with the Small Business Assistance Program at
the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), GreenEarth
Cleaning and CDPHE’s Hazardous Materials Waste Management Division to host the Safer Alternative
Drycleaning Summit on Saturday, March 9.
The event will be held at the Denver Marriott Tech Center located at 4900 S.
Syracuse St. and admission is free.
It will run all day and include several presentations and panel discussions from
a variety of experts in the industry, along with representatives from CDPHE and
owners and operators of cleaning plants who are using various alternative
solvents.
Also featured will be an Exhibitor Trade Fair that will offer a multitude of
resources in drycleaning, laundry and wetcleaning equipment and supplies.
So far, the list of exhibitors includes: GreenEarth Cleaning, Katzson Brothers,
R.R. Street & Co., Seitz Chemical, A.L. Wilson, Adco/Laidlaw, Caled Industries, Multimatic,
Columbia/Ilsa, Union, Wascomat, Spot Business Systems, Rocky Mountain Hangar
Company, Green Garmento, the Route Pro and more.
Registration on-site will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The first program will begin at 9 a.m. with the Colorado Department of Health
and the Environment discussing “The Perc Problem” and “Transitioning to Alternatives.”
There will be a break at 10:30 a.m. At that time, the exhibitor booths will open
and attendees will have a half hour to visit them before a panel discussion on “Understanding Professional Wetcleaning: Skills and Tools to Be Successful” begins at 11 a.m. It will be headed by Liz Davies.
At noon, lunch will be served and the exhibitor booths will reopen for another
hour.
Next up, will be a program at 1 p.m. on “Alternative Solvents: How Do I Choose?”
A panel discussion on “Alternative Solvents” will be led by DLI’s Jon Meijer and will include Richard Fitzpatrick for Kruessler’s K4, Tim Maxwell for GreenEarth Cleaning, Robert Blacker of R.R. Streets for
DF2000/Hydrocarbon, Jack Belluscio of Caled for GenX and Rynex and the variants
by Dr. Jim Schreiner and Yalda Harris of Adco/Laidlaw.
At 4:30 p.m. refreshments will be served as the exhibitor booths open until 5:30
p.m.
