SEFA seminars on social media, customer service
This April, the South Eastern Fabricare Association will host two educational programs in Tennessee designed to help cleaners increase their sales.
First up, Peter Blake will head to Chattanooga, TN, for a presentation on Thursday, April 18  from 7 to 9 p.m. called “Social Media Marketing for Today’s Marketplace.” It will be held at the Chattanooga Marriott located at 2 Carter Plaza.
Blake will focus on new and innovative ways for cleaners to use marketing tools to increase their business, including how to use social media effectively.
The program will cover: three steps to develop a marketing plan; 10 things you can do to immediately increase sales; effective ways to communicate with your customers; how to use the tools you have available; how to get a free website; and the tips and techniques of Facebook, Twitter, Groupon, texting and web navigation.
Then, on Saturday, April 20, the association will enlist second generation drycleaner Ron Garrett for a seminar social on “How Improving Your Customer Service Level Can Lead to Improved Sales.”
Garrett began working with the Johnson Group after graduating from Clemson University in 1984. Four years later, he purchased Lexington Dry Cleaning and was president for 15 years.
Ron was also active on the SEFA board of directors for 15 years, including a stint as president in 1996, and was a member of the Tuchman National Management Group.
His program will begin at 3 p.m. at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel at 611 Commerce Street in Nashville. There will be time set aside for socializing afterward from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The cost for either seminar is $29 each for SEFA/DLI members and $49 each for non-members.

NCALC sets holiday convention
On Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-26, the North Carolina Association of Cleaners and Launderers will head to the Blockade Runner Resort in Wrightsville Beach for its annual convention.
Guest speakers and topics for this year’s educational program will include: “Hanger Recycling” by David Farrington of NS Farrington; “It Can’t Be Ignored. Address Employee Benefits Now!” by George Evans of OPOC.US; and “How to Improve Our Industry and Make It More Attractive” by Ken Uchikoshi of Sankosha Manufacturing. Diana Vollmer of Methods for Management and Frank Kollman of Kollman & Saucier, PA, are also slated to appear.
The association has also planned fun social events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings including a Mardi Gras party, a Luau-themed dinner and a Young Cleaners party.
