MILD to mark 100th anniversary during July convention
Cars may be mostly restricted on Mackinac Island, but this summer cleaners will be more than welcome there as the Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning hosts a special 100th anniversary convention.
The event will be held at the historic Grand Hotel on the island from July 26 to 28.
In addition to celebrating the association’s landmark milestone with a Friday night welcome reception, there will be a Saturday evening black tie gala that will feature a historical presentation of the association and will include a commemorative booklet for those present.
While there will be plenty of time for fun and social networking, MILD also plans  a pair of educational sessions.
On Saturday morning, Charlie Owens, a former executive director if MILD and now Michigan state director of the National Federation of Independent Business. He will offer a state legislative update for beginning at 9 a.m.
Afterward, consultant and lecturer Jane Zellers, CED, will moderate a solvent panel from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Also, there will be a CompassMax users group meeting on Friday mrning and a golf tournament on Saturday after lunch.
MILD recommends signing up for the weekend as early as possible, especially for reduced rate hotel packages at the Grand Resort. Costs for two-night packages range from $760 for single occupancy (or $860 double) to upgraded packages at $1,320 for deluxe lake view single occupancy (or $1,420 double).

MWDLA sets convention, four seminars in August
The Midwest Drycleaners and Launderers Association will offer cleaners several options this summer with a convention and four seminars all taking place in August.
The convention will be in French Lick, IN, from Aug. 9-10. Attendees will have an opportunity to play golf on Friday morning and attend an allied trades reception and luau dinner later in the evening.
On Saturday morning, Jan Barlow, past president of the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute, will present an educational session. Later in the evening, the association will host a party.

Also coming up will be four seminars over a period of three days, Aug. 20-22.
E.J. Thomas and MWDLA will team up to present Martin Young who will speak on “CSR: The Face of the Industry” at Highland Cleaners in Louisville, KY, on Aug. 20 and at the E.J. Thomas warehouse in Cincinnati, OH, on Aug. 21.
On Aug. 22, Young be at the E.J. Thomas warehouse n Indianapolis, IN, where he will repeat the CSR seminar in the morning then offer a session on “Conflict Free Management — Sharing the Vision” in the afternoon.
