NCA returning to the Meadowlands for Texcare
Live demonstrations, new products and services and educational seminars by expert
speakers can all be found this October at the National Cleaners Association’s 2017 Texcare
trade show.
Set for the dates of Oct. 20 to 22, the event will be held at a familiar location: the
Meadowlands Exposition Center located in Secaucus, NJ.
The exhibit floor, which allows vendors and customers to meet eye-to-eye, will be open
from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission to the hall is free for all drycleaners.
The educational segment of Texcare will explore issues facing drycleaners today and what
it will take to still be around for the future.
Helping to answer pertinent questions about what the industry holds for the future will be a
futurist (and fashion merchandising expert, textile specialist and author of Fashion
Forecasting) — Lorynn Divita, Ph.D, who recently spoke at the joint NCA/DLI Brainstorming
and Five Stars conference held in the Dominican Republic in January of this year.
She will be a part of NCA’s “Uber” conference program on Friday and she will provide her
insights on the threats and opportunities lie ahead for drycleaners.
She will offer a report on the current status of the fashion industry, including what to
expect in terms of fashion trends from the closets of millennials and others. She will also
examine what garment manufacturers are working on and what the next generation of
customers will look for in service providers such as drycleaners.
Charles Ickes, chief logistics officer for Rent the Runway, will add his take on the future of
fashion on Saturday morning. His seven-year-old company has specialized in renting high-
end garments to women nationwide and also offers access to an unlimited career and casual
wardrobe for just $139 a month.
The rise of rental fashions will certainly have an impact on both the retail fashion and
drycleaning industries, and Ickes will divulge to attendees how he has positioned his
company to be able to handle the one million pieces it expects to process.
On Sunday morning, cleaners can learn more about the various solvent options that are
available as the manufacturers behind them will take part in a panel discussion and plead
their case why they believe their product will be the best choice for the future.
In terms of making travel arrangements to the Meadowlands Expo Center, there are three
major airports nearby: JFK, LaGuardia and Newark.
NCA has also secured special rates with two hotels in close proximity to the convention
center.
Right next door is The Embassy Suites which will charge $189 nightly for king suites and
$198 nightly for double suites. To make reservations, contact them at (201) 864-7300 and
mention your affiliation with NCA.
Only a block away from the convention center is the Harmon Meadows Holiday Inn
Secaucus, which will offer a nightly room with doubles or a king for $139. Contact them at
(888) 231-5540 and mention Texcare.
